THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PARAMETRIC METHOD OF MEASURING FIN FATIGUE LOADS BASED ON FLIGHT MEASUREMENTS ON A LIGHTNING Mk.T5 Structures

چکیده
SUMMARY The Report discusses briefly the philosophy of parametric methods of load measurement in which load is not measured directly, but is deduced from a statistical correlation with an appropriate combination of aircraft motion variables and control surface angles. It describes a full-scale flight experiment on a Lightning Mk T5 aimed at developing a parametric method for the measurement of fin fatigue loads under operational conditions. An empirical relationship is established between the fin root bending moment, as determined from a multi-strain gauge installation, and a combination of parameters. The parameters from which the combination is selected include translational and rotational accelerations, rates of rotation, rudder angle and angle of sideslip. The study covers the measurement of fin loads under a wide range of loading conditions.

Degree of Bending (DoB) in Tubular KT-Joints of Jacket Structures Subjected to Axial Loads
The fatigue life of tubular joints commonly found in offshore industry is not only dependent on the value of Hot-spot stress (HSS), but is also significantly influenced by the through-the-thickness stress distribution characterized by the degree of bending (DoB). The determination of DoB values in a tubular joint is essential for improving the accuracy of fatigue life estimation using the stres...

In the present research, data extracted from the stress analysis of 46 finite element models, verified using test results obtained from an experimental investigation, were used to study the effect of geometrical parameters on the chord-side stress concentration factors (SCFs) of central and outer braces in uniplanar tubular KT-joints of offshore structures subjected to four different types of i...
متن کاملParametric Study of SCFs in Unstiffened Gap Tubular KT-joints of Offshore Structures under OPB Moment Loading
In this paper, results extracted from a set of stress analyses performed on 46 FE models for unstiffened gap tubular KT-joints are presented and discussed. The main objective of the FE analyses, validated against experimental data, was to run a parametric investigation on the effects of geometrical characteristics of the joint on the values of the stress concentration factors (SCFs). The SCF is...
متن کاملDevelopment of Aircraft Flight Loads Analysis Models with Uncertainties for Pre-design Studies
Abstract. This paper addresses the development of analysis tools for flight loads prediction in the pre-design stage. The analysis tools are embedded in a parametric modelling environment. Emphasis will be on prediction of aerodynamic loads on specific structural parts, like the fin, during dynamic manoeuvres. Principal requirement is that these loads can be computed with low effort, but with s...
متن کاملFatigue Life Prediction of Rivet Joints
Strength reduction in structures like an aircraft could be resulted as cyclic loads over a period of time and is an important factor for structural life prediction. Service loads are emphasized at the regions of stress concentration, mostly at the connection of components. The initial flaw prompting the service life was expected by using the Equivalent Initial Flaw Size (EIFS) which has been re...
